Job Overview

The Senior Vice President, Marketing Strategy is responsible for managing all aspects of Sage Hospitality Group’s brand and field marketing operations and initiatives; and for leading an existing team of marketing specialists. This dynamic leader will champion and drive direct topline revenue opportunities for our SHM hotels by creating awareness, measurable, data-driven results from traditional and non-traditional marketing channels through a team of strategic experts.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of a comprehensive integrated marketing, CRM, social, digital, partnerships, web, communications and public relations strategy that will enhance SHG’s image and position within the marketplace and the general public.
  • Facilitate internal and external communications, including all SHG’s marketing, communications and public relations activities and materials including publications, media relations, client acquisition and so forth, for both hotels and corporate.
  • Develop and deliver a strategy for converting digital marketing and CRM into innovative digital commercialization to position SHG as the leaders of the consumer journey.
  • Direct and support market research collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data for short and long-term market forecasts and reports
  • Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all SHG publications.
  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee programs, technical assistance, and resource materials to assist the following teams: integrated marketing, CRM, social, digital, web, partnerships and PR/communications, F&B Marketing and positioning of their activities.
  • Provide counsel to chapters on all marketing areas.
  • Leads projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events.

Planning and Budgeting

  • Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations/social media/CRM/partnerships & programming/creative mission, goals and financial objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to Leadership.
  • Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/public relations marketing/communications/public relations/social media/CRM/partnerships & programming program/creative and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.
  • Recommend short- and long-term goals and objectives to Leadership.
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the marketing/communications/public relations function.
  • Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing/communications/public relations/social media/CRM/partnerships & programming/creative, hospitality and governance. Use this information to help the Organization operate with initiative and innovation.

Operational

  • Support and direct property leadership in revenue growth, market share performance and sales initiatives in coordination with the corporate support team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Establish processes to monitor marketplace dynamics and to proactively set selling strategies and tactics in advance of changes in the marketplace.
  • Ensure properties follow brand standards and Sage initiatives.
  • Create innovative solutions that result in company market differentiators.
  • Oversee communication to customers related to the short and long term vision and strategies and ensure timely and proactive communications to all stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the development of a strategic marketing and branding approach that follows a standardized process and effectively communicates strategy and return on investment projections.
  • Partner with property leadership to provide advice, guidance and support for the various marketing functions and day to day initiatives.
  • Implement and sustain education programs for corporate and property leaders on how to increase awareness on social media.
  • Monitor and review property business plans and results on a quarterly basis, including making recommendations based on changing conditions and results.
  • Ensure that the marketing resources are applied on a cost-effective, hotel-specific basis, making recommendations for hotels, providing training and support to the businesses, and by making recommendations to the corporate leadership team that will expand and enhance corporate resources.
  • Mentor and develop high potential talent and future high potential talent for the organization in line with the organization’s talent management strategies.
  • Implement succession planning within each direct report to provide new opportunities as associates develop, to handle company-wide growth, and to mitigate risk if associates leave.
  • Participate and maintain active company and community relations while taking part in corporate activities and meetings.
  • Perform any other assignments as directed by the organization or leadership.
  • Collaborate in lockstep with CCO, SVP Revenue and VPs of S&M Operations.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training

Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, public relations preferred. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success
  • Membership in IABC (International Association of Business Communicators) and IABC accreditation are desirable
  • Lifestyle, as well as branded and independent hotel experience are essential

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to implement an omnichannel strategy and mindset to provide our customers with a comprehensive purchasing experience
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills.
  • Proven track record to execute corporate, owner, and brand initiatives.
  • Demonstrated successful experience leading public relations strategy.
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, data base management and page layout.
  • Strong, relevant and current knowledge of electronic media, public relations, sales, marketing, and positioning of independent and branded properties.
