Job Overview

The Commercial Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the hotel’s top-line performance through a balanced focus on revenue strategy, sales and marketing initiatives. This role will structure department leadership to drive high performance in each function. This role oversees the development, execution, and optimization of the commercial strategy to maximize revenue, profit, and market share associated with rooms and function space.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue Strategy

  • Develop and lead the hotel’s revenue management strategy to optimize pricing, inventory, and distribution across all channels.
  • Collaborate with the revenue management and sales team to analyze market trends, competitive intelligence, and forecasting models while overseeing implementation of dynamic pricing, segmentation strategies, and optimal ranking.
  • Evaluate channel performance and recommend tactical plans to maximize RevPAR, banquets & catering revenue and GOP.
  • Ensure alignment between revenue, marketing and sales and operations teams to achieve budgeted goals. 
  • Work with commercial leaders to establish optimal business mix, drive RevPAR by room type, maximize total revenue production (TRevPAR) review and validate revenue forecasts, develop strategies for different demand periods, and review and approve retail, group and F&B pricing strategies.
  • Lead regular revenue strategy meetings and reporting cycles with executive leadership.
  • Lead owner meetings and other strategic discussions with property and corporate leadership teams.
  • Develop and maintain detailed and real time knowledge of competitor activity and refine property strategy with speed to market as appropriate. 
  • Utilize yield management tools and Sage corporate resources available to maximize efforts. Develop appropriate selling strategies to include recommendations on rate, arrival patterns, length of stay, and discount rate availability.

Marketing & Brand Strategy

  • Build and execute integrated marketing strategies that enhance the hotel’s visibility, reputation, direct bookings and ties in to the total revenue generation strategy of Hotel Commonwealth.
  • Lead content strategy, social media campaigns, digital marketing, email marketing, and partnership activations and guide the marketing team or agency partners to ensure brand consistency across platforms.
  • Analyze campaign performance and adjust plans to improve ROI and engagement.
  • Collaborate with PR agencies, local tourism boards, and brand marketing teams to generate awareness and demand.
  • Elevate brand visibility through targeted digital marketing campaigns (SEO, SEM, paid social, display, email, and content).
  • Oversee reputation management, social media engagement, and direct booking strategies.
  • Implement and monitor KPIs for all marketing efforts, using data to inform and adapt plans to drive measurable impact. 
  • Work in conjunction with commercial leadership and brand e-commerce teams to build and establish B2B marketing, digital marketing, social media, public relations and communications channels. Support luxury customer and industry events and cultivate and ensure exceptional customer relationships at all levels of an account. 
  • Lead, engage, and develop team members, including ongoing performance development and career development plans.
  • Advise key stakeholders on emerging trends and evolving businesses. 
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.  Participate in task forces and committees as requested.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of transient, group, and catering customer segments.
  • Excellent personal management skills; time management, meeting deadlines, effective communication and presentations skills.
  • Excellent understanding of total hotel revenue management concepts, processes, and systems.
  • Understands both Brand strategies and cultures.
  • Knowledge of advanced revenue management techniques and revenue management principles and digital marketing strategies.
  • Proficiency in systems such as RMS, PMS, CRS, Google Analytics, and CMS platforms.

 

Abilities

  • Must be extremely confidential and able to manage sensitive and confidential situations tactfully.
  • Negotiate, convince, sell and influence professionals and or associates.
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure and have the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent reading and effective writing abilities for completing paperwork and management reports, giving and receiving instructions, review and preparation of all documentation and training
  • Excellent mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances
  • Excellent hearing required to discern/resolve employee complaints, issues and participation in meetings for feedback.
  • Excellent vision required - 100% in review preparation of all documentation - applications, write-ups, reviews.
  • Sitting 85%, Walking 5%, Standing 5%, bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing 5%
  • Travel – 30-50% travel to hotel properties required.

 

Education/Formal Training

Four year degree preferred.

 

Experience

7-10 years of Revenue Management and marketing experience required

 

Material/Equipment Used

Operate calculator, telephone, facsimile, computer and copier.

 

Environment

Prolonged sitting throughout entire shift at computerized workstation in office environment.
