Job Overview

The Atterbury isn't just a hotel — it's a story Pittsburgh is still writing. Housed in one of the city's most storied buildings and reborn as a Marriott Autograph Collection property, we're guided by three pillars: Abundance, Wonder, and Confluence.

As Assistant General Manager, you will help lead hotel operations with a strong focus on Food & Beverage. This role is ideal for an experienced hospitality leader with deep F&B expertise across restaurants, bars, banquets, catering, and culinary operations. The AGM will partner closely with the General Manager and property leadership team to drive exceptional guest experiences, strong financial performance, and a culture of accountability and hospitality. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable reviewing a P&L, coaching leaders, evaluating labor and food costs, engaging with guests, and stepping into the operation during peak business periods. At Sage Hospitality Group, we believe in the power of place and the people who bring it to life. We invest in growth, development, bold ideas, and leaders who want to make an impact.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage associates in assigned divisions in order to attract, retain, and motivate employees; hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, discipline, and terminate, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a key operational partner to the General Manager, providing hands-on leadership across hotel operations with particular focus on Food & Beverage, including restaurant, bar, banquet, catering, and culinary operations.
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and manage the division's annual budget, business/marketing plan, forecasts, and objectives to meet or exceed management expectations.
  • Monitor Food & Beverage financial performance, including revenue, labor, food cost, beverage cost, average check, and profitability. Analyze operating results and implement strategies to grow revenue, control costs, and improve margins.
  • Partner with Food & Beverage and culinary leaders on menu strategy, pricing, service standards, beverage programming, product quality, and the overall guest experience.
  • Ensure strong purchasing, receiving, inventory, cost-control, food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service practices throughout Food & Beverage operations.
  • Oversee and support banquet and catering operations to ensure strong execution, guest satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Partner with Sales, Catering, Marketing, Revenue Management, and Operations to maximize Food & Beverage, group, private dining, catering, and event revenue opportunities.
  • Implement company and franchise programs and manage operations in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, company policies and procedures, and Marriott Autograph Collection standards to ensure a high level of quality and guest satisfaction.
  • Resolve guest complaints as appropriate to maintain a high level of guest satisfaction and quality.
  • Implement emergency organization procedures and training through the management of security staff and hotel leadership to ensure appropriate protection for hotel guests, associates, and company assets.
  • Create a work environment that allows for personal growth and development for all associates, encourages an empowered and engaged workforce, and supports Sage values.
  • Ensure prompt and appropriate response to conflict management.
  • Evaluate and support proper staffing levels, positions, scheduling, and labor productivity to ensure the operational and financial success of the hotel and its Food & Beverage operations.
  • Support strategies for the property from an operations, staffing, service, and Food & Beverage perspective while ensuring alignment with the business's other disciplines and support teams. Support strategic planning, development, and coordination of business initiatives and strategies.
  • Maintain a visible, hands-on leadership presence throughout the hotel and Food & Beverage outlets, particularly during peak business periods.
  • Ensure consistent and stabilized systems and processes for guests while identifying opportunities to improve operational execution and service delivery.
  • Mentor and develop high-potential and future high-potential talent in line with the organization's talent management strategies. Implement succession planning within each direct report area to provide new opportunities as associates develop.
  • Foster strong collaboration across Food & Beverage, culinary, rooms, sales, engineering, finance, human resources, and other hotel disciplines.
  • Look for more efficient and effective ways to provide services to the hotel and owners. Leverage technology and third parties where appropriate while continuously identifying opportunities to improve service, systems, and overall hotel performance.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management.
  • Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as business needs dictate.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • 5 to 400 employees.
  • Direct and indirect oversight may include Food & Beverage, Culinary, Front Office, Housekeeping, and other operational departments.

BEHAVIORAL FOCUS

At Sage Hospitality, how we work matters just as much as what we do. We are guided by a shared purpose to enrich lives, one experience at a time, and a vision to redefine how the world experiences hospitality.

At The Atterbury, we are guided by:

  • Abundance — Creating generous, welcoming, and memorable experiences.
  • Wonder — Delivering moments of discovery and surprise throughout the guest journey.
